After this project, I thought I was done sewing Star Trek related things. I'm not even that big of a fan, really. I've seen the new movies, and that's it.
While fabric shopping for another project my friend Mariah and I came across some novelty cotton prints. Star Trek prints. We bought a yard each of two different prints, and began this project.
Making Star Trek bustiers was Mariah's idea. The project involved a little over half of the yard of fabric, some iron on interfacing, and an old lining that I had lying around. To simplify everything and make it more supportive we molded the bustier cups over an old bra, and cut the bra to fit the shape silhouette that she wanted. There was a lot of math and planning that went in to this project, but the actual construction wasn't too difficult. The most difficult part was attaching the top layer and lining to the cups evenly.
There's boning on the side seams, next to the zipper, and under the cups.
The fit is a little off, but it is fixable. Just, later. I'm a little done with this project for now.
At some point I'm going to replicate this with the other print for myself, and if there's any interest I'll put up a more detailed tutorial of how this went together.
