Forever ago (maybe three years) I knitted a pair of socks that I wanted to give my mother for her birthday. I was knitting in a frenzy, trying to finish them on time. I did, and went to try them on, to make sure they would fit her, when I discovered that I bind off very tightly. I couldn't get the sock over my heel. The socks were thrown in to the back of the closet in frustration.
This weekend I dug them out and unpicked that last row of stitches, to rebind them off more loosely. While trying to figure out how I would do it again without making the same mistake, I had a great idea.
I put all the stitches on to the same needles that I knitted with the first time, but used a needle 2 sizes bigger to bind off with. It worked! The stitches are looser than I had made them, but are all a uniform size, so it doesn't look sloppy.
